80's

Who is this? I remember sketching him a few years back on this scrap of canvasboard- I remember the reference is from a photo in some magazine- I forget which, I know he's a writer- who drank hard, and probably looked in his 80's when he was only in late 60's early 70's-- I just can't remember his name. I'm pretty far from my 80's- I fear what I will forget when I do get near.

I am amazed at the amount of detail you managed to cram into such a tiny space. I can only imagine the brushes you used... and the patience this took.

    Seriously. Wow.

Could it be Hunter Thompson? Hemmingway was another drinker, but he's way gone. I thought it looked like Hugh Heffner! It's a fantastic portrait, whoever it is. I asked my husband to look to see if he might know who it is. (My husband is a writer.)He's watching football...he'll get back to you!
    What about Charles Bukowski?

  10. Beautiful work, made all the more amazing because of the size, I can't believe the detail, I'm in awe.
Could it be Mickey Spillane, yes it could. I Googled Mickey Spillane recent photos-clicked on the site and it took me straight to his face, and your rendering is so on the money.
    Really impressive work!

  11. Oh- yeah- wow! I see what you mean-- Thanks Miri! but I'm still leaning towards William S. Burroughs. I looked him up, and there's a photo of him that's almost the same pose as this- except taken when he was a young man.
